Dalian University of Technology (DUT) is a leading national research-oriented public university under the Project 985 and 211. It was founded in 1949, after 67 years’ development, it has evolved from a specialist science and technology university into a renowned multidisciplinary university with over 2,300 full-time faculty members and over 1,500 staff; 39,121 full-time students including over 4,138 Ph. D. students, 10,672 master students, and 26,606 undergraduates. DUT has now established long-term stable collaborations with more than 200 universities and research institutions in over 30 countries and regions.
With its excellence in research, teaching and community service, DUT continues to stand out among Chinese universities. It ranked 20th in China and top 400 in the world in 2015 USNEWS Best Global Universities Rankings. Its 8 disciplines entered top 1%, ESI Ranking in 2015.
Faculty of Management and Economics (FME) is a constituent faculty within DUT, which was founded in July 2010 but can be traced back to 1980. Our mission is “To advance business knowledge, foster innovative talent, and fuel social development” FME is recognised as providing innovative and comprehensive solutions to business problems using integrated learning environments. It has one of the broadest educational portfolios of any business school in China; it spans undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, MBA, EMBA and executive education. This breadth of teaching and learning is also matched by a diverse academic body that has research expertise differentiated into nine subject groups and enhanced by a further 12 National or Provincial Research Centers or Labs. There are 136 full-time faculty members in FME, 92% of them got their doctoral degrees from renowned universities at home and abroad, 60% of them have international professional experiences over a year. Presently 3920 students are studying in FME; we enroll top 3% senior high school students by their college entrance examination scores.


Our Research

FME is a research-based school. Its research strategy continues to develop and focus on achieving impact through research, which combines intellectual and theoretical rigour with practical relevance. This is evident through the quality of the content of our research, its acceptance for publications in the top international journals and the application of findings in policy and practice, nationally and internationally.
? FME covers four disciplines as management, economics, engineering and science, including 6 level-1disciplines and 20 level-2 disciplines. Management science and engineering and business management are our scholarly focus and have a leading position in mainland China. “Management Science” ranked 3rd in 2007 national disciplines assessment; “Business Management” ranked 7th in 2012 national disciplines assessment by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of China.
? From 2011 to 2015, FME’s faculty members have published over 1,600 academic works including academic research articles, practice-oriented research articles, articles on pedagogic development and innovation, papers in conferences and case studies. In 2014 alone, our faculty members have published 44 international journals including 1 A* and 12 A class papers ranking new high in the latest five years.
? FME annually receives about 30 million RMB (4 million EUR) research fund on average, which is very impressive high level compared with peers in mainland China. In the 2012 national discipline assessment, the research funding of FME’s business administration discipline sponsored by the central government ranked 1st nationwide.

Our Case Studies

FME is called the founder of case study in China. It is the first to carry out the teaching of case study, establish a case-sharing centre, publish the first case study book and write cases in collaboration with American professors in mainland China. After 30 year’s efforts, currently it has become the leader and centre in the case study in China. FME has the largest Chinese management case center in China-CMCC, which CMCC signed a cooperation agreement with Richard Ivey School of Business to promote the internationalization of China's local cases and recommend excellent cases to each other. Taking advantages of above strength; we have applied management case teaching to all education programmes.

Our Internationalization

FME is the earliest school in China to carry on internationalization with the western world. After 30 years endeavours, FME has built academic exchange and cooperative master’s programme with many NorthAmerican, European and Asian universities. In recent years, we have built Research Bases in U.S. and Australia with University of North Carolina, University of Massachusetts, and Australian Federation University, completed 20 large international cooperation research projects. Currently more than 163 international students are studing in FME. The total number of exchange students also reaches 300.
