Wang Zhongtuo is a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a professor and doctoral supervisor of the Institute of Systems Engineering. He is an expert in systems engineering and management science. He was the first Dean of the School of Management of Dalian University of Technology, the first Director of the Institute of Systems Engineering, a member of the Discipline Assessment Group of the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council for the first three terms, Vice President of the Systems Engineering Institute of China, and a researcher of the International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA). Doctor Wang is now the Director of the Research Center for Knowledge Science and Technology, the head of the section of the International Research Center for Knowledge Science and System Science, and a member of the Consulting Committee of the Management Science Division of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He was among the first to be granted the title of State Young and Middle-aged Scientific Expert with important contributions. Doctor Wang has also been awarded the title of National Model Teacher in 1998.
